Dr. Michael Alcorn
Dr. Alcorn is a psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of adults, children and adolescents. He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 2004, completed his Adult Psychiatry residency training at UC San Francisco-Fresno in 2008 and then returned to complete his child/adolescent psychiatric fellowship training at the University of Southern California in 2010. He earned multiple honors throughout his schooling and training dating back to 1996, including being named psychiatry resident of the year in his residency training program. He holds dual licensures in Alaska and California. Dr. Alcorn worked in one of the busiest psychiatric emergency departments in the nation while training in Los Angeles County.
He served as a psychiatrist for the United States Air Force for 5 years after the completion of his training. He has spent the last 10 years working in a variety of inpatient settings in Anchorage including performing consultation work at Alaska Regional Hospital. His unique military background allowed him to assist with the opening of the Chris Kyle Patriots Hospital where he has served as the primary psychiatrist for the last 10 years.
Dr. Alcorn has served our community by providing psychiatric services for children and adolescents in both acute and residential settings in Anchorage and Palmer. Dr. Alcorn is also actively involved in the substance abuse community, serving as the primary psychiatrist for Alaska Addiction and Rehabilitative Services at Point McKenzie and serving as an AKEELA board member. Dr. Alcorn is also a dedicated and experienced educator. He has proudly assisted the next generation of therapists and mental health providers as a teacher and as a presenter. He continues to supervise nurse practitioners, physician assistants, child psychiatry fellows and medical students when the opportunities arise.
